Privacy Policy

1. What Ocean Eyes collects

A report may contain an uploaded photograph, geographic coordinates, capture or submission time, selected report category, optional notes, image metadata and an anonymous device-session identifier. Technical records such as an IP-derived security hash may be used to detect abuse.

2. Why this information is used

Information is used to receive reports, restore queued submissions, classify images, support human verification, display appropriate public map information, prevent misuse and communicate report status where a notification mechanism is available.

3. AI processing

Submitted images may be sent to the configured Gemini Vision service for classification. The final policy should identify the service provider, processing region, applicable terms and any safeguards used before the integration is enabled in production.

4. Location information

Threat reports may contribute to a public health map. Exact coordinates for sensitive or endangered species can be hidden from public users and limited to authorised reviewers or partner organisations.

5. Anonymous reporting and traceability

Public account creation is not required. Anonymous does not mean that the platform stores no technical information: a non-public session or security identifier may be retained to prevent duplicate, automated or deliberately misleading reports.

6. Sharing

Relevant reports may be shared with approved conservation organisations, reviewers, rescue organisations or enforcement contacts when appropriate. Public displays should exclude private technical identifiers and protected location data.

7. Storage and retention

Offline reports are temporarily stored in the browser's IndexedDB until synchronised or removed. Server retention periods for images, reports, rejected submissions and audit records must be defined before launch.

8. Your choices

Users may clear local browser data before a queued report synchronises. The final policy should explain how to request access, correction or deletion where applicable and provide the responsible contact address.

9. Security

Ocean Eyes uses reasonable technical measures, but no internet service can guarantee absolute security. Report only information necessary for marine conservation and avoid including unrelated personal data.
